There are many different and varied
activities in the area, a few of which are listed below. There are many other
activities and information leaflets are available in the gîte.

There is rock climbing at Job and also paragliding. |

There is a touristique train, going past the château
through the heart of the valley. It has a raised observation area for a better
view. It runs all summer and also at several other times during the year.

There are many rural walks from the gîte
and also slightly further afield.

There are 2 churches in Arlanc, one of which is 12th
century.

At La Chaise-Dieu (the chair of God)
there is a wonderful
abbey, a museum of wood, a museum of wax, and many cafés.
During August, the abbey hosts a superb classical music and choral festival.

Just North of Ambert; there is a area for ski de
fond (cross-country skiing) with
peaks at over 1500m and good tracks in the winter.

There are many birds of prey to be seen in the area and in
the forests.

There is a "Plan d'Eau" 1 km the other side of Arlanc
which also has an open air swimming pool and tennis courts just along side. Also
in Ambert, there is a covered swimming pool with water slides and this is open
throughout the year.

The "Musée
de la Dentelle" (which is in
fact a Lace museum and not one of dentistry as many people think!) is in Arlanc
with guided tours available on request.

There is a honey farm locally (again with guided tours)
where you can see the bees at work and buy products made on the farm.

The Jardin pour la Terre is a 6 hectare site near to the
Plan d'Eau which is a large map of the world, planted out with trees and flowers
from their native countries.

In Ambert, there is a museum for agricultural and
steam machinery as well as a Cheese museum for the local Fourme d'Ambert that is produced there.

Heading out of Ambert towards St Etienne, there is a Paper
museum where there are guided tours and you can also see the paper being made in
the traditional way.
